This formula is an experience proper, its kind of special and completely different from todays baking, today all you need to do is go to the market and pick anything off of the ledge, put it in the stove and you have it.
Well Im old style when it’s some thing Im planning to eat and enjoy, I must have hands on and do it the old way.
OKAY enough jabber lets get on with the menu so we can enjoy it, remember your materials should really be room temperature or near to it.
Ingredients for dough:
5 cups unsifted flour
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baing powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
pinch of salt
pound butter softened
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
4 egg yolks
pint sour cream
1 teaspoons vanilla
Ingredients for filling:
2 cups ground walnuts
cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or what you may like
Sift together 5 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 4 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons baking soft drink.
Put the butter, reducing, 4 egg yolks, pint sour cream, 1 teaspoons vanilla and of course the pinch of salt.
Combine many of these ingredients in your processor or mixer.
Divide dough in to 3 pieces, throw out the very first piece and place it onto an inch x 15 inch cookie sheet.
Combination together:
2 cups ground walnuts
cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or whatever you like
Spread some of this mixture onto the very first layer of dough, then roll out yet another piece of dough and place it on top of the filling, put some more of the filling on top of the 2nd layer of dough, now with the next piece of dough roll it out and produce a lattice top on your design.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes, cool and cut.
