In the I-HR publication, moderator Beth N. Carvin asked if the notion of advertising might be used effectively to improve efficiency and retention. This is an extended version of my a reaction to her question:
Yes, I believe you need to use the notion of branding as something for increasing maintenance and employee productivity.
Let’s approach it from the perspective of a manager talking with his / her subordinates. If the director sets out to construct a positive status over time and over a number of messages, then we might say he or she is embarking on a branding exercise. It is an endeavor to produce the confidence and goodwill necessary to have communications both recognized and acted upon.
Entrepreneurs advertising services and products do essentially the exact same thing: send out some communications designed to develop a good reputation as time passes.
And, when messages to employees create goodwill and confidence, then communication sent after that may be used communication to boost preservation and efficiency.
For example, in writing staff newsletters for my corporate clients, I have always emphasized the need certainly to offer articles and information of importance to visitors (the employees). By doing that, employees arrived at see their organization newsletter as a maybe not, and useful resource administration propaganda. That, subsequently, opens the entranceway to asking employees to complete or not do certain things (safety precautions, for instance), and finding a positive response from their website.
In a sense, discussing this method of building trust and goodwill as marketing might be just a semantic exercise. Nevertheless, I believe that when we put a name to an activity, we ensure it is more straightforward to understand and follow. And, that could be the actual value of discussing marketing in the context of staff communication.
Let us also understand this issue in a larger sense, too, since it is important to consider the various functions of communication in production and preservation. Three common kinds of communication figure within our thinking: instructional, contextual, and motivational.
Instructional communication provides information that helps the others do their jobs more proficiently. Contextual conversation offers the problem, that ought to help readers do their jobs better. And motivational interaction shows users the advantages of responding even as we have required.
The educational interaction should really be accurate, appropriate, and functional, to construct trust and goodwill. Individuals who get our communications must be in a position to act on them, and know they can act on them with full confidence.
The contextual conversation must be relevant and useful. The issue should be put by it into a structure that helps others know how specific projects or problems fit into the proper flow.
And, the inspirational conversation must focus on them, not on you. It must suggest to them the significance of their advantages.
In summary, think about advertising whilst the process to build trust and goodwill, a process which makes it possible to increase production and maintenance through interaction.
