[Music] garrett here from garden first cannabis i’m a grower a music junkie and an avid outdoorsman i’m always looking for new ways to better myself and my garden join me as we go behind the scenes to meet the incredible people behind today’s most successful cannabis brands and hear the stories of their journey this is deep roots [Music] we were somewhere around barstow on the edge of the desert and the drugs began to take hold remember saying something like i’m feeling a bit light-headed maybe it’s time for you to drive right and suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us the sky is full of what looked like huge colas growing and smoking all around us and diving around the car holy holy holy jesus these nevada growers throw some [ __ ] fire out here what are you talking about man never mind time for you to drive let’s go i hit the brakes to name the great red shark towards the shoulder of the highway no point mentioning those buds i thought poor bastard would see them soon enough we had two jars of peanut butter souffle 75 pellets of jet fuel five sheets of high powered knock you on your ass hazmat salt shaker half full of thc isolate and a whole galaxy of multi-colored gummies tinctures pre-rolls libras not that we needed all that for this trip but once you get locked into a serious bud collection a tendency is to push it as far as you can the only thing that really worried me was the hazmat there’s no one in the world more paranoid and self-aware than a youtube host that’s too stoned to ask questions and i knew we’d get into that rotten stuff pretty soon [Music] [Applause] uh how did you get into hunting finos and and growing cannabis and getting out here jason [ __ ] then i’m all high it’s gonna take me forever we spent this on the daily so let’s try it again you know exotic you’re special you’re different you know you’re out here hunting stuff like this just trying to be different trying to be unique when we pull up to the shop we just want to make sure that nobody has what we have so we get that red carpet treatment you know it’s 20 21 so you can’t be just growing the homeboy’s blue dream you gotta you know do your own strain projects you know hunt your own you know phenotypes and what’s what’s part of the rotation that you’re going to be you know working into some of these hunts and crosses facial strains that we have in market right now are peanut butter souffle tokyo drip hazmat gmac and the one that we’re most popular for jet fuel nice and we just did a dope breeding project with sin city seeds and jetfield was the the male in the project we crossed with about 10 different females like the chatfield jet fuel cross chatfield mellon hey chef phil hazmat jeff phil sunday driver jeffy obviously jeffy fuel jeff field jeff y’all yeah those are pretty popular a lot of people like they don’t understand that when they see that on paper back crosstalk yeah some of the craziest ones so we’ll see we’re rolling out that new small batch program we’re going to be dropping these new strains through that program irene how long have you been with uh within exotic it’ll be five years in august i really was employee number one for the whole company yeah that’s dope um what else man you gotta ask us the questions i’m working on it dude i’m trying man i was right there with you jason you know we were all chilling today hasn’t it everybody knows the hazmat is one of our strongest yeah this is a hard one to start with you know that’s what it’s about it’s about flavor too it shouldn’t just always be about high thc it’s such a shame um what’s happened since thc testing and wreck happened and it’s right there in big fat numbers everyone started paying attention to the numbers all these strains with great noses great bag appeal really just solid test 16 17 and it’s just getting lost to the winds you know that’s crazy stephen what’s uh what’s your history with uh with cannabis man um i’ve been growing for about 20 years um moved out here from texas um came to las vegas didn’t have um a legal market to go to and had to supply myself with something so um i met him yeah i met the right people and uh they taught me how to grow tomatoes and i i took it from a hobby and ran with it and turned it into a career nice when did you come on with fino exotic i’ve been uh with fino for about two years now um we’ve seen a ton of growth since uh uh that time we’ve gone from two rooms to four rooms to six rooms grew uh the brand um and it’s just been an amazing journey what’s your what’s your favorite part of uh being commercial instead of you know basement garage growing being able to sleep not looking over your shoulder it’s such an exciting industry to be in right now just so much movement and downright human rights abuse you know that it’s been prohibited for this long um and it’s still prohibited in so many places so i can’t even buy a house right now you know because my money is from can’t get a mortgage i mean it’s i have the best credit uh the money ready to buy it but they won’t anything fdic so got to make some uh changes in the rules uh hopefully they will legalize it and hopefully they will keep it within the states rights i mean we would actually get a little political here on the weed world but if they they open it up to the united states we’re going to have marble uh supplying to everybody their weed we need to have our local growers local small growers here providing for our our states our own states and providing the money needs to come back into the states of the schools all that i think there’s a lot of fear that you know the culture could just dissipate if you know some of these entities come in and control everything absolutely um it’s sassy but it’s good to see people like you guys clearly super passionate about what you do still dedicating space to hunting strains and popping seeds and being different and not just pumping out the same [ __ ] drying it in two days and you know kicking it out the door in a cheap bounce bag very nice to meet you dude yeah a pleasure to get the cribs i’m super excited [Music] holy [ __ ] [ __ ] how the [ __ ] did i get here we gotta get the pinot exotic oh god [Music] what up jason why don’t you tell me a little bit about where we are yeah we’re standing in the mom room right now this is the room that holds all of our you know our mothers that are rocking for our main production schedule uh right now we usually rock about five to six strains you know at any given time heavy on that production schedule um so just you know we got different sizes of plants you know small medium large plants trying to keep the mobs going too long try to recycle them out yeah keep them nice and healthy so you start strong and strong right definitely so you got about four or five strains you guys are running as your staples right now yeah so right now what’s on our main production schedule is we got our jet fuel which is one of our most classic strains we had that from the original launch it’s actually the only strain that still exists on the 2021 menu we have one called hazmat which is pretty sick it’s uh by sea junkie genetics it’s a 91 chem dog crossed with animal cookies we have another one called tokyo drip which was read by the cookies fan who they call it the candy rain replacement packs people say they’re like the triangle cushcross with the sherb uh we have one called gmac by capulator that’s gonna be uh grandma mack uh colombian cross with mac then we’ve got peanut butter souffle peanut butter souffle i grabbed some of that in the shop the other night super creamy super sweet that was one of my favorite strains i’ve smoked out here in vegas so far yeah it’s one of our newer ones people are really psyched about it it tests well it’s got crazy bag appeal it’s got that creamy kind of smoke that was bred by cannerado and collab with finest genetics nice that’s a cross between lava cake and dosi dos you guys working with some really good breeders uh who else are you working with around here to get some of your guts yeah i mean we start everything from seed and everything’s hunted on site at this facility well jason this room looks awesome clearly getting a healthy start to the rest of your cycle why don’t you show us where we go next let’s go peep out the veg and clone known as the veg hotel we try to keep about two guests in here at any given time we’ll rock anywhere from like 800 to a thousand plants and those two are in different stages so you’ll see like on the outer perimeter these are all ready to flip into flower we’re at the middle rack uh these are for the first two weeks where they grow a little bit smaller more condensed in nice this is the first hotel i’ve seen in vegas that didn’t have slot machines everywhere but it’s definitely a prettier one for sure so i see these plants are looking really good let’s check out some of these roots man i i personally love using rock wool for veggies i mean we use rockwool our roots always stay busting one of the rooting promoters that we like to use is rapidstar by general hydro right vigorous growth helps the plants take off you can really see like the roots are a lot wider a lot brighter a lot bigger more of them awesome well you guys are definitely maximizing square footage in this room i love the racking system you got going on seems like the industry as a whole is kind of moving towards this whole racking system leds you know being space efficient especially in veg you’re getting a lot of light spread for uh for one unit uh what kind of power draw are you getting on these things yeah so these are the gavita 900e each one’s drawn at 345 watts they’re an eight bar setup able to get a really low to the canopy giving you the ability to you know get more tiers in here absolutely i mean it seems like you’re getting a lot of canopy out of 345 watts right here and you’re able to get them really really close and i can see down low even even some of these down low branches you’re getting really really good light penetration into the canopy for sure and we’ve tried so many different lights even the traditional metal halides and the plant health that’s coming out of here and how fast it takes us to get the plant ready just growing a lot better with these lights you got the full spectrum so you can use them for any stage in the grow process that’s awesome i love the new white light that’s coming out of these leds are you using these just in veg in propagation or are you guys kind of transitioning some of this into flower as well yeah we actually got a little bit of led going on in flower as well trying it out and that’s why they’re cool because they got that full spectrum all right sweet well the climate feels really good in here and i know that probably takes a lot of work growing in the middle of the desert so what are you guys doing in here to make sure that the plants have what they need growing in the desert definitely need some more humidification absolutely we use the ideal air they’re really dope units they’re easy to work with super easy to maintain easy to connect we’ve got about a few in each room whole facility probably got about a little 15 of them they’re rated at 200 pints you know to cover about 1600 square feet absolutely it’s a feat in and of itself getting up to 60 humidity in this climate yeah definitely keep them cranking awesome jason thank you so much for showing us these rooms where are we heading to next we’re going to check after julie caesar of course stabbed right over there by brutus and the rest of the senate that’s uh that’s about all i know about caesar’s palace but uh one more thing i do know is that they’ve got a drink for me and i’m getting thirsty so let’s go get one [Music] so we’ve been mobbing the strip just stopped at crack shack so let’s get down on some fried chicken first we got this po boy oh my god that is beautiful messy crunchy sweet savory nice and refreshing with all that lettuce and pickled onion what else we got in here lord it’s no wonder they call it crack shack it’s my second time here in 24 hours there might have to be a third if i had 11 fingers i’d give it 11. [Music] so what do we got going on in here well this is where it all kind of starts um you know you got to start with good clean water unfortunately las vegas has absolutely terrible water that’s what i hear so we definitely start with the ro machine right behind you there um it works uh constantly all day long to give us these reserve tanks we have three of them 800 gallons a piece so 2400 gallons on hand that we can then uh go ahead and start mixing our nutrients into nice it’s really always important to have a lot of backup ro storage because uh those things work slow sometimes absolutely this is the base of everything we then ship this with a pump over here to our fertigation machine when you’re starting with ro you definitely have to add back in some of your bases cal mag is huge when you’re starting with absolutely zero ppm you do need to go ahead and get that calcium and magnesium back in uh it also has some micronutrients in it like iron absolutely it’s so important to have all three of those nutrients in there too because they feed each other if you don’t have enough iron the plant’s not gonna be able to uptake the magnesium and it’s not gonna be able to uptake the calcium if it doesn’t have enough in magnesium so it’s so important to have that good ratio i’ve been growing for 10 plus years always use the botanicare cal mag like the frank’s red hot of the grow you put that [ __ ] on everything you go on any forum ten years ago they’ll say that’ll fix everything basically yeah yeah it’s definitely um a good solid uh calcium magnesium i’ve been using it myself forever so generally what we do is we ship clean water over to here um we then add in um our silica blast by uh botanicare silica is super important super important uh provides a great stem growth good vigor um also uh can help protect from environmental stresses um also build those cell walls nice and thick so your plant is definitely healthy hold itself up absolutely i saw you guys have plenty of humidifiers in here but i’m sure being in the desert you know real quickly if something goes wrong you could drop low also super important to get that added first to the reservoir so your rest your salts don’t crash out it’s a good water buffer get that mixed really well and then we go ahead and move right into our base it is definitely the flora micro and bloom by gh general hydro products tried and true the oldest ones in the game been around forever and there’s a reason for that absolutely along with depending where we are in the growth cycle we do manipulate the grow micro bloom levels depending on what the plant wants at that time right some of the other additives that we definitely use um we like to use liquid karma throughout the entire process it’s great for just a general plant vigor it’s kind of that all-around multivitamin for plants and we use that throughout the whole life cycle of the plant when we get into flower we do lean pretty heavy on hydroplex to kind of initiate those first bud sites and it’s just great for all around uh bud development and then when we get a little further on uh to uh into the flowering when we get to that ripening stage we then introduce that cool bloom by uh general hydroponics as well absolutely classic product absolutely been around forever really helps with uh flavor profiles uh terpene content and then really packs on that uh last amount of growth right before harvest time yeah that product really kicks ass people been using that since we were all grown tomatoes back in the day absolutely it’s really really cost effective it comes in that powder but it looks like you’re able to pre-mix that into a concentrate for this fertigation system yeah absolutely uh just behind this we have our fertigation room where we hold all of the general hydroponics and botanical products and we do just mix that into a uh nutrient solution and then we have the fertigation machine go ahead and pump it well steven this place looks great i don’t know if i’m more impressed or jealous of what you’ve got going on here with the fertigation but i’m just stoked to see what we got going in the rest of the facility awesome can’t wait to show you all sorts of different colors and sizes and smells in here there’s a [ __ ] unicorn in here somewhere and i [ __ ] know it [Music] all right we’re up here standing on these super safe five gallon buckets to check out this canopy it’s looking beautiful tell me a little bit more about what we got going on in this room yeah this room’s a few days away from harvest we’re about by day 60 or something like that we take every room anywhere between 63 and 70 days i’m loving the the trike production on this the nose is great is this that peanut butter souffle yeah this is our peanut butter souffle definitely one of our best bag of peels out of all the strings we’ve got going is this some kind of cookies line cross yeah so this right here is bred by cannerado of the collab with finest genetics this is a dosey dose crossed with lava cake so it really gives off that cookies small bud structure they’re really dense but the nugs are they look really small you can see they’re all fading out they’re really caked out right now absolutely beautiful color on the leaves and everything and then behind over there we have a lane of what we call our new small batch program right that’s bred by cannerado as well that’s tk91 crossed with the wedding cake and then the very final row we have our one of our most popular ones called hazmat hazmat sounds scary man oh i’d say it annihilates you it looks like it’s definitely a lot of work though yeah it’s one of our more finicky plants it’s uh it’s hard to grow but you know it’s worth it because the final product once it hits the jar you know the the consumers they don’t know what we have to go through right they just get to see the beauty in the jar but uh it’s definitely a harder one to grow uh we have our uh two lanes of peanut butter souffle uh right behind you is gmac which is a nice calculator macros and then for our small batch in here we have a peach pie cross by uh green fire genetics nice you guys got a really really deep canopy in here it looks like you’re gonna get you know a lot of penetration down low and pull a lot of weight out of this room so stephen i see you got a bunch of these uh rockwool stacked on top of each other and some kind of rolling bench and tray system that’s helping you maximize the square footage in here yeah absolutely we use the botanicare rolling benches along with the botanicare trays super durable we’re able to get in here deep clean them sanitize them not to be too gentle with them the nice thing is is they’re highly customizable we can get them in whatever size we need whatever length we need they come in multiple dimensions as far as width and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put them together you can literally throw them together in a couple hours with a few people in a wrench another nice thing about them is is because they are rolling we’re able to utilize every square inch of the growing room and they’re actually really easy to move you can move them with one hand and uh allow you to get in there and work and do what you got to do and grape cbd wholesale then move them right back uh when you’re done yeah it seems like you guys are really focusing on space efficiency you know you had the two to three tier racking system in veg you’ve got this full rolling bench in here where there’s only two foot that’s not canopy and pretty much everywhere you got you know nice side buds coming in so kudos to making the most of your space absolutely and now you know in cannabis uh every square inch is money so we got to utilize all of it all right man so you got a lot of plants in here i’m sure they’re transpiring a lot of water out we are in the desert but i imagine you need a little more help than that to get this place dry enough yeah absolutely we use quest throughout our entire facility uh in most of our flower rooms we have two we have them in our dry room bedrooms pretty much anywhere in this building that needs uh help with dehumidification they’re super energy efficient which allows us to maximize our amperage load and then also save money at the end of the year they have great customer service really short lead times because they’re made here in america we don’t have to wait for them to be shipped overseas they’re also really energy efficient nice thing is is uh you know when we have a limited amount of power that we’re able to use for uh each room um the fact that they uh are fairly low amperage we’re able to fit an extra unit in here sometimes yeah it’s great they run on 220 as well which even chops that amperage in half and so important we’re always limited by uh by our transformer size here in the grill game absolutely so you guys are growing some gas in here i imagine you’d probably have some neighbors complaining if you didn’t do something about the smells what are you guys doing for odor control for odor control we use a combination of a max fan along with a can light filter we have a pretty unique system set up here we have two in the room um it scrubs the air and then goes to a second catch area where we have four more canned filters it’s scrubbed a second time before it uh exits the building so luckily we don’t ever get any complaints from the neighbors yeah i didn’t smell anything when we pulled up today um you know we’ve been using the max fans and and the can filters at our facility too and i don’t know about you but i’ve noticed that they definitely blow a lot harder than some of the other fans of the same size absolutely they have a pretty unique 3d fan blade system allows them to be extra efficient they have almost double the amount of cfm as other fans their size can filters themselves also use a super high quality carbon so they tend to last quite a bit longer than most carbon scrubbers [Music] what’s up irene how you doing what’s up man pretty good i’ve had a great time today at the facility so far bedroom is beautiful flower room is beautiful been seeing the peanut butter souffle the whole way down the line so when it comes to your part of the job what are you doing with it well once it gets done harvesting you know we take some time drying it once it’s dried we get it bucking then it comes up to the trimmers takes about a week for the trimmers to get through it once they’re done trimming it comes back inside here with me where i do the curing process depending on strains you know i spend about a day to three maybe opening the bags just kind of burping them then after that it goes to our labs which every lot has to get tested there’s a specific amount that needs to get tested by the badge so once the labs come through and everything’s cleared it goes into our packaging and goes out to all the stores well you guys have such beautiful flower and such beautiful packaging i can’t imagine you have a tough time selling this not at all man everything is pre-sold as soon as we get the last eighth packaged and sealed it’s ready to get on the trucks and head out to all the dispensaries we have here in las vegas about how many stores are you guys in um right now we are about 15 different stores so you’re like pheno exotic prime two day shipping to your door really even before we’re done packaging they’re already just wanting the product there that’s beautiful the trite content and everything on these buds is really incredible you can tell that both your trimmers and yourself are really delicate throughout this whole process just so important to you know retain that bag appeal yeah definitely it’s going to be sad to leave a room that smells so good but i know you need to get back to taking charge of these trimmers so i’ll let you do that thank you for coming it was great what are we breaking into over here yes this is our new uh small batch jars that we’re gonna be rolling out with and this is actually our jet fuel and hazmat crosses we brought three of our phenotypes and we went on the hunt four to check out which one’s smoking the best let’s fire number seven first let’s do it lucky number seven it is vegas i think this might have to be the one man oh man it’s honestly super smooth like number seven that musk on it i was i was you know i was thinking it would be like a little kind of foul but it tastes like really kind of smooth and creamy so what makes the different numbers is the phenotypes when you only buy a pack of 10 you got to be really selective and limit on how you pop right and every single seed when you’re buying a pack of seeds for like 500 bucks you’re not going to let one of those seeds go and so the cool thing is when we had these hundred seeds we actually popped like originally like 30 40 seeds of each one and we’re like aggressively screening them already at the veg stage which we never pull uh stuff out of veg let’s try another one dude let’s do it let’s go for number two with this new small batch program what it’s allowed us to do is now you know final hunt directly to the consumer and they’re going to be able to try and engage within that six-month project so we’re going to be screening faster rolling out more strains well people don’t realize not only how long that takes you guys to get that hunt and select that strain but all that time you’re having to give up some of your space to house those genetics and then it’s another six months after that before you’re able to get into your rotation so you know the amount of intention you’re putting in to you know the strains that your consumers are gonna be smoking you know like that’s definitely to be commended it wouldn’t be phenoxotic if you weren’t exotic number two’s uh it’s got some extra flavor it does i like that i’ll let you go i think that’s the one dude all right you got enough in you for one more time i’ll get the one last hit of the last joint okay we’ll survive one more for safety the first one second came in first yeah and actually got me high as [ __ ] dude i don’t think it was number three that was the second one we did right it was the second one we smoked yeah so that’s number three i think this is the other one okay guys we all we all got lost say that that was exactly the second one we smoked yeah you guys have it on camera that’s the one that’s smack dude for sure well this was my first actual i mean i’ve been selling weed for about
