It’s your house and lawn, right? So just why share them with harmful insects?
“Your lawn shouldn’t be considered a place where you have to manage dangerous pests or bother about the conditions they can carry,” says Bayer Advanceda Garden Expert Lance Walheim, mcdougal of “Lawn Care for Dummies.”
But there are really two kinds of harmful pests: those that harm the lawn or affect people by attacking aboveground, or those that attack your lawn by biting on the grass roots. It is important to be sure you are managing for the right insects.
Several pests which can be wandering above or below your lawn:
a Bugs-In Southern states, the chinch bug could be the most damaging pest of St. Augustine grass lawns. Consumers save money than $50 million yearly wanting to control them.
a Mole Crickets-This may be the no 1 grass bug on the Gulf Coast. The pest injuries lawns two ways: by serving on the origins and through significant tunneling.
a Ticks-Lyme infection and Rocky Mountain spotted fever are two diseases transferred by ticks. Lyme infection is centered in New England and the mid-Atlantic states and may cause persistent arthritis if left untreated. RMSF tends to occur in the Southeastern states and causes severe headache, fatigue and other problems.
a Grubs-The larvae of certain beetles, grubs are the most famous of turf-damaging land insects. In late summer, fall and next year’s spring, grubs live in the top several inches of soil, feeding on the roots of lawn grasses and destroying the turf above. In early summer, grubs transform into adult beetles that emerge from the earth. Some, like Japanese beetles, become leaf-feeding people that trees, harm flowers and other flowers aboveground.
a Fire Ants*-Have plagued over 275 million acres within america over the last 76 years. The number of mounds reaches densities of up to 1,000/acre, with each containing several hundred thousand stinging ants, while they spread.
